Ivory L. Jenkins

Ivory L. Jenkins

We very much regret to inform you that Mr. Ivory Jenkins died this past weekend at Memorial Hermann Hospital. Since the beginning of October, Ivory battled medical challenges that never allowed him to return home or work.

This news comes as a devastating blow to those who worked closely with Ivory and the many students he supported over the past eight years. Hailing from Helena, Arkansas, he received his Bachelor of Science from Arkansas State University. He worked at Prairie View A&M University as technology support for Student Affairs and recently moved to Information Technology as part of a reorganization. Jenkins was highly involved in the life of PV students. He chaperoned student trips, advised young men, was advisor to the Rho Theta Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., and three-time Advisor of the Year and two-time Omega Man of the Year. Always bringing a smile with his support, he was loved across our university community.

Mr. Jenkins was a very active member and deacon at Greater Macedonia Baptist Church in Houston. Working as hard in his church as he did at PV, he was a member of the Male and Adult Choirs, a leader in New Memberā€™s Orientation, Santa Claus for Christmas programs, and volunteer for food distributions.

His goal in life was to serve others, and that he did.

In speaking with Mr. Jenkinsā€™ mother, Ms. Emma Jean Miller, she asked that we share that ā€œhe loved everybody at the University.ā€

The memorial viewing for Mr. Jenkins will be held:
