PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas (September 9, 2020) – INROADS, an organization that provides student internship opportunities, has named Prairie View A&M University (PVAMU) its “Education Partner of the Year.”
Dedicated to impacting young people of diverse backgrounds for 50 years, INROADS connects students with corporate sponsors for internship opportunities. It currently serves nearly 2,000 interns at more than 200 companies.
“INROADS has partnered with PVAMU to prepare and select students for internship opportunities for more than ten years,” said Glenda Jones, ’89, director of Career Services. “PVAMU has always and will continue to support INROADS because of the opportunities available for our students.”
This year, INROADS placed eight PVAMU students at internship assignments.
“Students are offered internship opportunities according to their major field of study so they can enter their industries with confidence after graduation. Many students receive full-time offers after completing their internships,” Jones said. “Internship experience enhances a student’s marketable and transferable skills, provides valuable hands-on experience in their field of study, and makes them more attractive to employers.”
INROADS corporate partners include AIG, ALDI, AT&T, Ernst & Young, FedEx, Global Food and Beverage Company, JPMorgan Chase, Neiman Marcus, Penske, PepsiCo, Price WaterhouseCoopers (PwC), and Shell Oil.
Due to COVID-19, students selected for internships through INROADS this year will participate in a virtual “candidate prep” session to prepare for their assignments. On September 9, Career Services will hold a virtual career fair for PVAMU students and alumni.
“We are committed to seeking employers for all of our students,” Jones said. “It is rewarding to watch the student transformation, from receiving the first internship to accepting full-time employment, or entering graduate and professional school with the experience and confidence they gained along their career journey.”
