BIRMINGHAM, Alabama – Two of Prairie View A&M University’s Track and Field teams won Southwestern Athletic Conference Championships. For the Women’s Indoor Track and Field Team, it was their second consecutive SWAC Championship during the two-day event.

Coach Angela Williams was named Women’s Coach of the year. Coach Chris Clay was also named Men’s Coach of the year.

Through all 17 events, the women’s team finished with a 133 overall score in front of Alcorn (101), Alabama State (85), Florida A&M (72.5), Arkansas Pine Bluff (71), Jackson State (44), Bethune Cookman (41), Southern (40), Texas Southern (35), Grambling (24), Mississippi Valley (8.5) and Alabama A&M (6) wraps the field.

Women's team

Notable women’s results include:

  • The distance medley team of Dinah MurphyJordan DeadwylerJalen Elrod, and Sydney Devereaux finished second with a time of 12:21.22.
  • Kaizha Roberts finished second overall in the 60-meter dash (7.47), first overall in the long jump (6.04m), and third overall in the triple jump (12.15m).
  • Jade Sabir finished second overall in both the 200-meter dash (24.45 seconds) as well as second in the 400-meter dash (55.65 seconds).
  • Dinah Murphy had a second-place finish in the 800-meter run with a personal best of 2:14.25.
  • The 4×400 meter relay team had a third-place finish.

The men’s team completed their 2022 SWAC crown finish with a total of 120 points ahead of Texas Southern (85), Jackson State (70), Southern (70), Bethune Cookman (69), Arkansas Pine Bluff (63), Alabama State (60), Florida A&M (45), Alcorn State (42), Grambling (24), Mississippi Valley (8) and Alabama A&M (7) rounds up the men’s field.

Men's team

Notable men’s results include:

  • Damon Cobbs Jr. finished second overall in the 400-meter dash with a time of 47.55 seconds.
  • Jemal Wote finished first overall in the 3000-meter run (8:30.38) and third overall in the mile (4:18.51).
  • The distance medley team consisting of Worthington MooreEthan PhillipsCymon Shy, and Wote finished first, shattering the conference record with a time of 10:11.84.
  • Nathan Crawford-Wallis finished second overall in the long jump (7.12 meters) and finished first in the triple jump (15.38 meters)
  • Jonathan Ewulo finished second in the triple jump with a jump of 14.96 meters.
  • The 4X400 meter team of Nasir Pate, DeVonte Jones, Ethan Phillips, and Cobbs finished in first with a time of 3:16.09.
  • Wote to home the Most Outstanding Track Performer award, totaling 26 points by himself.
  • Crawford-Wallis was named the most outstanding field performer with a total of 22 points.

The Panthers now turn their attention and prepare for the outdoor season, as they will return to action on March 5 at the Texas Invite in Austin, Texas.
