PVAMU Newsroom

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas (Oct. 20, 2023) – Clean. Sleek. Modern. Excellence: Prairie View A&M University’s redesigned Newsroom launched this week, a perfect representation of these adjectives, as well as PVAMU’s new tagline, “Excellence Lives Here.”

Led by the Office for Marketing and Communications, the redesign is another initiative of the office’s new marketing campaign, launched this summer, designed to help set the University apart from its peer institutions in a highly competitive higher education market.

“Since the launch of the Excellence Lives Here campaign, we have received an overwhelming response from the campus community about the work happening in our academic and research units. To ensure we are able to share these stories with a broader audience, I tasked my team with revitalizing the platform to match the energy, look and feel of the campaign,” said Candace Johnson ’02 ‘05, executive director of PVAMU Marketing and Communications.

A View from the Top

Users in the Newsroom are met with the latest news stories at the top, featuring “tags” that inform readers who or what is the main focus of the articles. For instance, one of the more recent stories highlights a student’s journey to the Arctic Circle, hence the tag “Student News.”

Right underneath Latest News is a PV in the News section. PV in the News is continuously updated with media appearances by faculty, staff, students and alumni of the University. Many of these appearances are spearheaded by University communications members in the MarComm office.

Other sections include an Editor’s Pick section, or a notable story that may be particularly interesting to readers, and two columns highlighting PVAMU’s series, PV Grads, Faculty PROfiles, First-Gen Forward, and Opinions.

Experts and multimedia are featured to assist journalists needing more information about popular or trending topics around us.

A section designated for Excellence Lives Here stories round out the page. These stories are high-profile stories that really drive home the message of the new campaign, touting common themes paramount to the success of PVAMU through the years: World Class Academic Programs, Transformative Student Experience, Groundbreaking Research, Inspiring Faculty, and Notable Alumni.

“My goal in working with the team and one of our talented web designers, Ashley Albee, to redesign this particular website was simple: I wanted a one-stop-shop to showcase all of the wonderful news happening at and around this beautiful University. It’s a project three years in the making, and I’m thrilled for everyone to enjoy the new PVAMU Newsroom,” said Marchita Shilo, assistant director for Marketing and Communications.
