PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas (Feb. 22, 2023) – “I drew such inspiration today from meeting with students at Prairie View A&M University who will help shape our region’s future.”

Those are reflections from President and CEO of Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas Lorie K. Logan, following her event at Prairie View A&M University on Feb. 14. The event was hosted by the College of Business.

“The Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas has a strong partnership with PVAMU, an HBCU northwest of Houston that is the second-oldest public institution of higher education in Texas. Building opportunity through education is foundational to building a strong economy,” Logan said via Linkedin.

During the event, Logan shared her views on the economy and monetary policy. “Thanks to Dr. Ruth Simmons, president of the university and board chair at our Houston Branch, for hosting me and for the stimulating conversation,” she said.

“I was happy to see that the program went very well,” said COB Dean Munir Quddus. “The audience certainly learned from someone who sits on the Federal Open Market Committee and actively participates in the formulation of the U.S. monetary policy.”

The Earnest Boyd and Floretta Brown Collins Auditorium in the COB, which has a capacity of 400, was filled with guests from the Dallas Fed (and the Houston Branch), invited guests, as well as members of the President’s cabinet, deans, faculty, staff and, most importantly, students from across campus.

“Lorie Logan is a shining example of how your college major may be one thing, but your career may turn out to be something else,” said Master of Science in Accounting student Ashley Salinas. “This experience was enlightening and will be a memory I will cherish for years to come.”

Logan’s prepared remarks were followed by a wide-ranging conversation with President Simmons, covering many subjects, including leadership, education and related issues.

Logan, a native of Kentucky, holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from Davidson College and a master’s degree in public administration from Columbia University. She began serving as the 14th President and CEO of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas last August.

In this role, she represents the 11th Federal Reserve District on the Federal Open Market Committee, which essentially formulates the U.S. monetary policy. As president of the Dallas Fed, she also oversees some 1,200 employees.
