PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas (December 13, 2021) – If you look up the reason for decorating a graduation cap, the number one response is that it is a “great way to express yourself and share your excitement for what the future may hold for you and your classmates.” Of Prairie View A&M University’s 642 graduates who walked the stage this past weekend, there was no shortage of excitement, as well as creativity in the mortarboard department.

During Saturday morning’s event, hundreds of caps were fully decorated. Some were filled with words of affirmation, including “Black Educated Queen,” “I did it!” and “HBCU Grad.” Others included heartfelt messages to family members, both living and deceased. There were also many that stated post-graduation plans and degrees they would officially receive that day, i.e., “Wait! I have to get a master’s too?!?”

Take a look at some of our favorite caps below. And hats off again to the Fall Class of 2021!
