Belinda Lewis ’97 ’98

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas (Nov. 13, 2024) – Belinda Lewis, a Prairie View A&M University alumna of the Classes of 1997 and 1998, personifies “excellence lives here” as she serves students as the Director of the Office of Disability Services. She was recently honored by the Texas Association for College & University Student Personnel Administrators (TACUSPA) as the 2024 Mid-Level Student Affairs Professional.

TACUPSA is a professional association that enhances higher education and student success by cultivating relationships and engagement that promote leadership development among current and aspiring student affairs practitioners and scholars. Annually, TACUSPA honors a talented student affairs professional from a Texas higher education institution in recognition of their outstanding:

1) service to the campus community promoting student learning and professional development,
2) individual contribution through the delivery of innovative and responsive services and programs that address varied and emerging needs of students and
3) individual contribution to the profession and TACUSPA.

This year, Ms. Lewis was chosen as the outstanding candidate from the pool of applicants. The recommendation that distinguished her application read: “In addition to launching the Disability Student Services Board in 2019 to create a space to normalize having different abilities on campus for all students and advising a student group that brought the Special Olympics to Prairie View in 2022, Ms. Lewis approaches each call, email, or visit as an opportunity to solve the problem regardless of the issue, even when she can make a referral and allow a colleague to address the issue, to ensure students do not fall through the cracks while navigating the process.”

Congratulations to Ms. Belinda Lewis.
