Vesey began teaching at PVAMU in 2012 while completing his doctorate in management at the University of Texas at San Antonio. Before he arrived at PVAMU, he served as an adjunct faculty at the University of Texas at San Antonio, Huston-Tillotson University, and Clark Atlanta University.

At PVAMU, in addition to his teaching and research responsibilities, Vesey championed the subject areas of leadership and management, spearheading efforts to create the new human resources minor in the COB and a course in leadership in a global environment, which was recently added to the university’s core curriculum.

“Dr. Jermaine Vesey was an ideal colleague, who was a competent professor in the classroom and an innovative and creative teacher who was willing to try new methods and technology to enhance the learning of students,” said COB Dean Munir Quddus, Ph.D. “In my 20 years as dean, Professor Vesey was certainly among the best and most beloved faculty in the College. He was an inspiration to his students and colleagues, and to me. Our community of faculty, staff, and students are truly heartbroken at the sudden demise of our beloved colleague, who was a scholar, an educator, an entrepreneur, and a friend to many. The outpouring of heartfelt responses from his current and former students and colleagues is a testament to his positive impact on the lives of many.”

Aside from his profound impact in academia, Vesey had years of marketing experience with Dell and IBM. He also worked as a business owner with a penchant for real estate and a passion for his community.

“Many remember Dr. Vesey’s zeal for real estate and the urge to improve the lives of his students, which motivated him to offer free after-hour lessons to anyone interested in learning more about the business of real estate,” said Quddus. “His room was full of eager young people interested in the subject.”

According to Vesey’s online obituary, “He was passionate about creating a legacy for his family and the Black community.”

The Vesey family has requested that memorial donations, in place of flowers, be made to PVAMU, where Vesey faithfully taught, inspired, and served for nearly a decade. Vesey’s wife, Winona Vesey, Ph.D., and sister, Charity Vesey, also share the same fervor for PVAMU. Winona was an adjunct instructor in the Department of Management and Marketing, and Charity was the first associate director of the PVAMU Executive MBA Program. The funds will be used to establish a scholarship fund in their loved one’s name to benefit all students of PVAMU. Donations can be made online at https://giving.pvamu.edu/DrJermaineVeseyScholarship.
