PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas (October 8, 2020) – This month, Tony Moore, chief information officer (CIO) at Prairie View A&M University (PVAMU), began his new role as a board member for EDUCAUSE. The prestigious organization, which is represented in over 50 countries, supports advancing higher education through information technology. Moore was selected to join the board for a four-year term, along with University of Delaware Vice President for Information Technologies and CIO, Sharon Pitt.
āEDUCAUSE is the foremost authority and resource for institutions seeking the latest trends, cutting-edge research, data, analysis, and toolkits,ā said Moore, who was recently recognized by the National Diversity Council as one of 2020ās Top 50 Chief Information Officers in the country. āIt is indeed an honor and privilege to serve on this esteemed board, especially since Historically Black Colleges and Universities have been underrepresented in this organization both in membership and leadership. I felt compelled to seek an appointment on this board to address issues and concerns faced by our institutions. I am hopeful this appointment will provide insight and resources to all Minority Serving Institutions as well as a pathway for others to serve in this role in the future.ā
In their positions, Moore, Pitt, and nine other board members from various institutions and organizations will work to ensure that EDUCAUSE meets its goals, objectives, and fiduciary responsibilities, of course. They will also serve on committees, task forces, and special assignments designed to elevate technology.
āEDUCAUSE is at the epicenter of all technological advances in higher education,ā said Moore. āIt helps universities by providing research, best practices, and data analytics. These tools and resources are invaluable to Prairie View A&M University in reachingĀ strategic priorities and advancing the effectiveness of technology use on campus.ā
Moore says EDUCAUSEās mission of advancing higher education through technology closely aligns with his vision at PVAMU of creating a 21st-century learning environment.
āPreeminence and excellence in all that we do is the vision of Information Technology at PVAMU,ā he said. āOur goal is continuous improvement, quality service, and building advanced technical environment. Our mission is to support student success, research initiatives, trending learning pedagogies, and modern business practices.ā
And, with the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, Moore says his new role will help PVAMU further adapt to this ānew normal.ā
āI think the ability to network with other professionals facing similar issues, especially during this pandemic climate, will generate ideas and solutions toĀ assist our campus,ā he said. āEDUCAUSE creates a space to review best practices and solutions to help institutions solve the challenges we face on a daily basis. Utilizing tried and true methods that have been vetted and implemented by other schools will ultimately save time and money.ā
Moore will have plenty of opportunities to connect with fellow members, as EDUCAUSE currently has a membership base of over 2,300 organizations and over 100,000 members. Moore has been a member since 2006.
āI am excited and ready to contribute and representing PVAMU in the most positive light,ā he said.
