On March 24, President Simmons and I announced a temporary change in grading policy for Spring 2020. The University would allow a Pass/Not Pass (P/NP) grading option for undergraduate courses. At the time, a set of Grading Policy FAQs was established to help students make an informed decision, and the deadline for selection was originally set for noon on Tuesday, April 28, before the Final Exam period began.

In recognition of the continued challenges and severe complications brought on by the recent pandemic, the deadline for selection is extended to 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday, May 13, 2020. Students will now be able to view posted final semester grades before opting for a Pass/Not Pass (P/NP) grade.

All final semester grades will be visible to students by 8 a.m. on Tuesday, May 12, at which time they may make their selection in PVPlace in the ā€œRegistrar Formsā€ section. The short timeline for selection will last approximately 48 hours in order to allow for Financial Aid and the Registrar to run important processes such as Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) reporting for the Summer Session, which begins less than two weeks later.

Students who selected a P/NP option to meet the original deadline must resubmit their request. Note that while the NP option is the equivalent of a D or F and does not factor into the GPA, it does not allow credit to count toward a degree. Therefore, the selection of the NP in place of a D must be made with caution. The selection of a P/NP cannot be reversed.

Please Note: Any student considering the change from graded to P/NP grading should consult with an academic advisor, professional advisor, athletics advisor, or financial aid advisor to understand the implications of the change on oneā€™s future plans, including progress toward a degree or financial aid.
