As a result of a successful search, I am pleased to inform you that Dr. Reginald T. Braggs has been appointed Assistant Vice President and Dean of Students, effective July 17, 2023.

As an alumnus of Prairie View A&M University, Dr. Braggs has served in various higher education, K-12, and military capacities domestically and internationally in New York, Nigeria, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and Bahrain. He started his journey at Prairie View A&M University as an Assistant Professor, Unit Recruiter, and Student Advisor for the Naval ROTC, and most recently served as the Director of Central NY Partnerships and Enrollment and Interim Executive to the President at State University of New York in Oswego, New York. While at American University in Nigeria, he also held various leadership roles that directly impacted the Office of Student Affairs, community engagement, and student achievement.

Dr. Braggs holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and Management from Prairie View A&M University, a master’s degree in Business Administration from Texas Southern University, and a doctorate in Educational Leadership from Trident University International with a focus on how first-year experience programs enhance self-esteem and retention rates.

In recognition of his practice as the Assistant Vice President for Foundation Programs in Nigeria, he showed leadership by implementing the Chibok Girls Education Initiative, which was designed to help young women, who had been kidnapped by a terrorist group, accomplish their goals of graduating with a bachelor’s degree. Additionally, through his service in the United States Navy, he directly contributed to a 50 percent increase in cooperation initiatives for the U.S. Embassy.

A special thank you to Dr. Wash Jones, who has served as Interim Dean of Students for the past year. He will return to his duties as Director of Student Support Programs. I am appreciative of his willingness to lead the division during this interim period.
