PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas (August 14, 2020) – Prairie View A&M University is home to four Residential College Communities: the First-Year Experience for freshmen (University College and University Square); the Second-Year Experience for sophomores (University Village); and the Program Houses, or University View, for juniors and seniors.

While the start of school should be an exciting time, the coronavirus pandemic has produced some changes within these college housing communities. Here is some need-to-know information for students to keep safe.

  1. Staggered move-in days begin this Saturday, August 15. Residents of University College will move in August 15-17; residents of University View and University Square can move in August 16,17, and 19; and residents of University Village move in on August 20 and 21. If you are a resident, be sure to only bring two guests with you to campus to help you move in.
  1. Masks must be worn at all times. Your health, and your neighborā€™s health, depends on it. That’s because the coronavirus that causes COVID-19 mainly spreads from person to person when someone talks, coughs, or sneezes. So please, Mask Up! In addition to residential areas, masks are also required in classrooms and all public settings on ā€œThe Hill.ā€
  1. All rooms/apartments have been cleaned and sanitized. It will be spick and span. However, it will be up to each resident to maintain cleaning and sanitation throughout the semester.
  1. Residents can only host one visitor at a time. If you are moving in and eager to socialize, wait a little bit. Visitation begins two weeks after the semester starts and set visitation hours are posted throughout the communities. Of course, you and your guest should monitor your health and not visit if one or both of you are feeling sick.
  1. Residents will not be forced to move out if a state- or citywide shutdown occurs. Housing will remain open during the semester for students who need to stay unless the university states otherwise.Ā
  1. Residents will be required to self-isolate for 14 days. This is only if they have been exposed to or have tested positive for COVID-19. If itā€™s safe to do so, residents will be advised to return to their family’s home to isolate. If that’s not feasible, there is emergency isolation housing available on campus.
