Covid testPRAIRIE VIEW, Texas (September 9, 2020) – If you are a Prairie View A&M University (PVAMU) faculty, staff member, or student, you have probably seen the glaring, golden notification at the top of all PVAMU websites requiring you to call and report to the Coronavirus Hotline if you have been diagnosed with COVID-19 (or been in contact with a confirmed positive).

In further efforts to prevent the disease from spreading on campus, the university is requiring intercollegiate athletes (as mandated by NCAA rules) and students in areas where a cluster of positive cases has been detected to be tested for COVID-19.

ā€œWhile not required for all others at this time, testing is still highly recommended for not only your well-being, but for that of your fellow Panthers,ā€ said Associate Vice President for Student Affairs/Dean of Students Steve Ransom.

PVAMU has partnered with Houston Methodist Wellness Services to offer testing events at its different campus locations. Students can make an appointment with Houston Methodist Wellness Services at the Main Campus, College of Nursing, or Northwest Houston Center campus. After testing, students will receive their results in as little as 24 hours using Houston Methodist’s tool called MyChart.

ā€œThis is only one strategy of several the university is using to offer students access to COVID-19 testing. Additional testing events and details will be emailed throughout the semester,ā€ said Executive Director of Health Services Tondra Moore.

Further information about testing, as well as measures the university is taking to prevent the spread of COVID-19, is posted at www.pvamu.edu/coronavirus.

In the meantime, you can protect yourself and others from COVID-19 by staying home if you’re not feeling well; regularly cleaning your hands; avoiding touching your eyes, nose, and mouth; social distancing; wearing a mask; limiting travel; not sharing personal items; and monitoring your health daily.

ā€œWhile these directives may seem restrictive and inconvenient, please know that they have been established to provide the safest possible living and learning environment,ā€ said Ransom. ā€œThe health and safety of the campus community is the responsibility of every community member. Your help is needed as Panthers Push Forward.ā€
