Dr. Felecia McInnis Nave, Provost and Senior Vice President, Academic Affairs has been recognized for her extraordinary achievements in the eighth edition of Who’s Who in Black Houston. The in-depth biographical article featured in the book traces Dr. Nave’s humble beginnings in Prentiss, Mississippi and follows Nave as she reflects upon her family, her journey from the University of Toledo to PVAMU and her love for her new role as the third Provost in PVAMU’s history.
Article excerpt:
“I believe that I’m where I’m supposed to be” explained Nave. “All of the hard work, education and encouragement led me to this role on this campus doing exactly this work. I now have an opportunity to help shape the direction of a university – to solve problems and critically think through how we can provide our students with a high quality education all while giving our faculty opportunities to grow in their respective fields.”
As her professional life thrives, Nave is also enjoying her family life as the loving wife to Tracie Nave, an assistant principal in the Houston Independent School District, and as the proud mother to her three sons and a daughter.
“Having my husband and raising my four wonderful children is what I consider to be my most important job – as well as my biggest accomplishment. Balancing home and work is a task for me; the key is to remain cognizant and aware of both. Mentoring and taking care of the husband-wife relationship as well as tending to my children are equally important,” explained Nave.
When Nave looks back on her journey thus far, she is reminded of the importance of family and how her mother, grandmother, grandfather and aunts shared their faith, wisdom, strength and knowledge with her throughout her life.
These days, Nave wakes up every morning with the idea that each moment brings new possibilities. “I have a great life. Both my personal and professional lives allow me to do what I enjoy most! I have the challenge of making a lasting, positive difference for students, faculty and staff at Prairie View A&M University and I constantly strive to find ways to be the best wife and mother that I can be. I’ve honestly got the best of both worlds,” exclaimed Nave.
