Dear Students,

Early this morning, campus emergency officials were made aware of a fire in the air conditioning unit on the third floor of building 40 in University College. The building was evacuated, and all building residents have been accounted for and offered relocation. A total of 96 students have been impacted. Three students sustained injuries while trying to escape the building.

The University’s student affairs staff has been working with American Campus Communities (ACC) since the incident occurred to ensure all students are provided with the necessary emergency support during this stressful time. The University will provide impacted students with an excused absence from classes for the day.

The Fire Marshal is conducting a thorough investigation and will provide University officials with a report. In turn, the University will ensure that the campus community is promptly updated. Please be assured that your safety is of foremost importance.

Please contact Orok Orok, executive director of Residence Life, at 346-666-3200 or email him at oeorok@pvamu.edu for information on direct student support services.

Sincerely,

Beverly Copeland
Vice President for Student Affairs
