PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas (Nov. 21, 2022) – Over 1,600 kindergarten through fifth grade students were on “The Hill” earlier this month for Prairie View A&M University’s Office of K-12 Strategic Partnerships and Outreach’s 2022 Elementary School Day.

They hopped, skipped, jumped, laughed, danced and played as they toured the PVAMU community. Traveling from as far away as Louisiana to Hempstead, Channelview, Spring, Hearne, Brenham, Goose Creek, Bryan and Houston, they experienced PVAMU firsthand, spending the day visiting the University’s eight colleges and School of Architecture and learning more about the careers they could pursue.

“Elementary Day is important because we impact kids’ lives as early as six years old. Some have never been to a college campus or know anyone with a college degree. After seeing our beautiful campus, and interacting with our college professors, some of our undergraduate students shared their journeys from elementary school. The experience will be etched in their brains, and they know this can become a reality,” said Talitha Lewis, Ed.D., director of Strategic Partnerships and K-12 Outreach.

The students participated in various hands-on learning experiences with faculty and students. One of PVAMU’s newest partner schools, Aldine ISD’s Impact Leadership Academy, the district’s first all-boys school, joined in on the eventful day. PVAMU education graduates brought their students, who walked away with new goals to strive towards when they become young adults.

Eighty percent of the schools that attended are Partnering School Districts of the SPAO Program. To learn more, visit www.pvamu.edu/admissions/spao.
