Forever Connected

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas (November 1, 2021) – Prairie View A&M University is excited to welcome Panthers (and Panthers at heart) back to “The Hill” and into the stands for its first in-person homecoming game and related festivities since 2019. Various events are scheduled for October 31-November 6 with the theme “Forever Connected.”

“Homecoming is a time-honored tradition for students, faculty, staff, and especially, our alumni community,” the Homecoming Leadership Team said in a memorandum. “Each year, we look forward to welcoming our alumni back to “The Hill” to engage in the Homecoming Experience. From catching up with friends to making new memories with your families, our homecoming is the essence of fellowship.”

PVAMU announced earlier this year, after consulting with the University’s COVID-19 Taskforce and assessing the public health landscape projections for the greater Houston area, this year’s homecoming would be a hybrid experience, offering a mix of virtual and in-person activities, which are listed below.

Homecoming Week Events

Sunday, October 31, kicks off the Door Decoration Contest, where departments can show off their Panther Pride. Doors and offices will be decked out in purple and gold decorations campus-wide. On Monday, November 1, student entrepreneurs put their best work on showcase at Student Market Day. This event takes place in the Willie A. Tempton, Sr. Memorial Student Center (MSC) Grand Ballroom from 1-5 p.m.

Tuesday, November 2, begins with PV Chopped, a spin of the popular Food Network show. Healthy Houston PV will supply the same ingredients and supplies to student organization participants to create unique, healthy recipes. Leadership and faculty on campus will judge the final dishes. This event is from 10 a.m. to noon in May Hall.

Grab & Go Craft follows PV Chopped, from 1-4 p.m., on the first floor of the MSC. Students and employees can create works of art and signs showcasing their PVAMU spirit. Following, it’s the HBCU College Tour, which lasts from 1-5 p.m. Those who would like to be a part of the tour can head to Alumni Field located in the middle of campus.

At 7 p.m., the Royal Coronation honors Mr. and Miss Prairie View A&M University, Keyshon Limbrick and Z’Nae Mangum. This event happens in the MSC Opal Johnson-Smith Auditorium.

Super Hump Day in Holland and Gaines Park headlines events on Wednesday, November 3. From noon to 2 p.m., students can take a break from class and have fun via a silent headphone party. The music continues at 7 p.m. with Aux Cord Wars. Participants will control the music, and those who pick the best songs win prizes.

On Thursday, November 4, the PV Chopped contest continues, this time with faculty. The logistics are the same as the student contest, as well as the location in May Hall from 10 a.m. to noon. At 8 p.m., it’s the Student Headliner Concert, featuring the best hip hop and R&B jams.

Friday, November 5, kicks off with a KPVU broadcast from the MSC, featuring updates from various campus administrators. It’s also a special day for the Golden Class; the Class of 1971 will enjoy a breakfast, luncheon, and banquet throughout the day. That evening, all alumni are welcomed back to “The Hill” for the special 2021 Alumni Homecoming Concert, featuring international artists Jonathan Butler and Norman Brown. Attendees can enjoy a night of smooth jazz in the tailgate parking area.

To wrap up the week, the Homecoming Parade starts at 9 a.m. on Saturday, November 6, followed by the football game versus Alabama State University in Panther Stadium at 2 p.m. Tickets are on sale here.

Special Virtual Programming is also happening throughout the week from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the university’s official YouTube channel. There are masterclasses, performances, and interviews with PVAMU students and alumni alike.
