Prairie View A&M University participated in the Council of Public University Presidents and Chancellors’ Undergraduate Research Day late March. Marquise Williams, (insert details), traveled to Austin to present about Target Identification and Tracking Using a UAV and Big Data Analytics. Advised by Dr. Lijun Qian, he, along with several other students, developed identification and tracking data that can be loaded in a drone. In case of a disaster, rescuers can use the data from the drone remotely to target someone who is in an emergency. It tracks movement and sends information to the rescuer informing them of the person’s location.

Dr. Grace Abolaji, coordinator for the Undergraduate Research Program, accompanied Williams to make the postal presentation. She said the research poster had many visitors with questions about the drone and Williams was very interactive with the visitors,”It was really great; He really performed well,” said Abolaji.  “Williams was selected to be the point person because of his passion and dedication to the project,” said Abolaji, “He was really ready to do so much and communicated with myself and Dr. Chen to make sure everything went well,”

The pair, Abolaji and Williams, also attended a panel session for STEM and Behavioral Science during their time in Austin. She said there were several questions raised and discussion had about undergraduate research and translating research into policy for development. “They also talked about the role of collaboration and networking of students in undergraduate,” said Abolaji.
