Dr. Michael L. McFrazier has been selected to participate in the inaugural Aspiring Leaders Program at the University of Pennsylvania. With a very competitive group of applicants, McFrazier was one of 20 participants chosen from various schools across the nation.
Spearheaded by the Center for Minority Serving Institutions at the University of Pennsylvania’s Graduate School of Education, the program will host a three-day forum that includes discussions and workshops on a variety of topics such as using data to make decisions, assessing student learning and managing relationships with faculty to name a few. McFrazier was informed about the program when he received several notifications from mentors and colleagues who were aware of his interest in becoming a college president. “It’s a total program designed to help prepare individuals who seek a presidency become prepared to apply and have success in obtaining it,” said McFrazier.
Following the forum, program participants are paired with current and past presidents of Minority Serving Institutions in efforts to continue to build the mentor-mentee relationship for a period of two years or more. McFrazier has been paired with former President of Norfolk State University, Dr. Alvin Schexnider. “I’m excited about the opportunity to learn from a mentor and to be a part of the inaugural cohort,” said McFrazier. He also mentioned looking forward to the opportunity to network with the other program participants and having access to the resources UPenn has concerning Historically Black Colleges and Universities and Minority Serving Institutions.
