PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas (Sept. 8, 2025) – A rare total lunar eclipse, often called a “Blood Moon” for its striking red glow, captured the attention of skywatchers across the globe on Sept. 7–8. While the spectacle was not visible in North America, Prairie View A&M University’s Dr. Premkumar Saganti, Regents Professor of Physics and director of the University’s Solar Observatory, offered insight into the event during an interview with Houston’s CW39.

Dr. Saganti explained how precise software helps scientists and students track the timing and impacts of eclipses, deepening understanding of Earth–Moon dynamics and the space environment. He also noted that eclipses are valuable natural laboratories, providing opportunities to study light, atmosphere, and motion in real time.

Although U.S. observers missed this celestial show, Dr. Saganti emphasized that more skywatching opportunities are ahead, with additional lunar and solar events on the horizon.
