John Sharp, chancellor of The Texas A&M University System, today announced the expansion of the Chancellor’s Research Initiative across all System schools. Since 2013 the Chancellor’s Research Initiative (CRI), has provided one-time funds to Texas A&M University and Prairie View A&M University for the recruitment and hiring of faculty members who will have a transformational impact upon the academic and research missions of the schools. It is envisioned that such candidates will markedly enhance research funding awarded to the Universities from federal, international, industrial, and/or foundation sources.

“The current CRI has been a great success and is helping Texas A&M and Prairie View A&M recruit top-rate researches and their teams,” said Sharp. “Now we want to replicate that success for our other universities.”

The expansion program will make available $10 million over three years to recruit star researchers or other outstanding faculty to Texas A&M University System campuses, including Tarleton State University, Texas A&M International University, Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, Texas A&M University-Kingsville, West Texas A&M University, Texas A&M University-Commerce, Texas A&M University-Texarkana, Texas A&M University-Central Texas, and Texas A&M University-San Antonio.

“Our priority is candidates who have a proven track record of success in developing and implementing large, multi-investigator, federally funded programs such as National Science Foundation Engineering Research Centers, NSF Materials Research Science and Engineering Centers, foundations that support the liberal arts, and other funding mechanisms of similar scope and scale,” said Dr. Jon Mogford, Vice Chancellor of Research.
