Goals

  • Goal: To further enhance PVAMU students’ preparation in STEM for matriculation into competitive STEM PhD programs.

Specific Objectives

  • Establish an enriched interdisciplinary research culture that engages CUSP fellows (Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics majors) at PVAMU in research during the academic year and in summer internships.

  • Create a nurturing learning community by engaging CUSP fellows in a multidimensional mentoring program.

  • Engage students in courses that emphasize the research process.

Projected Impacts

  • Provide scholarship, professional training and mentorship to UR students who are on the graduate school pathway.
  • Establish and/or strengthen partnerships between PVAMU and PhD-granting institutions that will provide a sustainable STEM pipeline infrastructure.
  • Contribute to an increase in the number of UR STEM students who matriculate into a STEM PhD program and obtain a STEM PhD.
  • Build of a replicable, transportable, evidence-based model that promotes preparation of students from UR populations for STEM research careers.
