PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas (September 10, 2025) — Yonghui Wang, Ph.D., assistant professor in Prairie View A&M University’s Computer Science Department, has received nearly $125,000 from Princeton University to support research addressing a growing cybersecurity threat.
With the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence, deepfakes—synthetic media that swap a person’s likeness in images, audio, or video—have become increasingly realistic and widespread. While some are harmless, deepfakes are increasingly used in fake news, financial fraud, and invasive content, posing serious threats to privacy, political discourse, and public trust.
In this project, PVAMU takes a leading role, with Dr. Wang serving as principal investigator for the University. Wang will guide the development of advanced algorithms for detecting deepfake videos, collaborating closely with Princeton researchers. The project will train graduate students and integrate research outcomes into coursework, while giving undergraduate students, including those from underrepresented groups, hands-on experience in addressing pressing cybersecurity challenges. PVAMU’s leadership ensures that the University plays a central role in advancing innovative solutions to this growing threat.
