The secret to success in any field is practice.

Practicing your interviewing skills can:

  1. Lead to less anxiety during the interview.
  2. Better your odds of getting the job.
  3. Give you the confidence to interview anywhere, anytime.

How can you practice?

Below are some options ranked in order of how helpful they are.

  1. Set up a mock interview with your Career Development Advisor Curtis Fields.
  2. Go to a Career Event where employers and career experts will be on hand for Mock Interviews.
  3. Use an online Mock Interview tool. Email Curtis Fields (cufields@pvamu.edu) for a link to try Shortlister, the College’s virtual Mock Interview platform.
  4. Get a friend, family member, professor, or classmate to quiz you. Provide them with a list of interview questions and have them interview you.
  5. Video record yourself answering interview questions. Play the video back and critique yourself.
  6. Practice answering interview questions by yourself.
  7. Don’t practice at all. This option is NOT recommended.

Just remember – any practice, even with a friend or by yourself is better than no practice at all.

Practice weekly or at least once a month to stay confident and keep your skills sharp.
