Commencement is the University’s most important event, as it signifies the culmination of a student’s academic career. Since its inception, more than 60,000 graduates have received academic degrees in a multitude of disciplines.
Established in 1876 as a land-grant institution by the 15th Legislature of the State of Texas, Prairie View A&M University is the second oldest institution of higher learning in the state. With meager beginnings as an industrial school for minorities, the University has thrived for 137 years, dedicated to fulfilling its mission of achieving excellence in teaching, research and service.
PVAMU is to a wide area of student-athletes who give their all in their sport of choice. Within the Southwestern Athletic Conference, PVAMU has earned the distinction of champions in football, women’s basketball, women’s bowling and men’s tennis.
The legacy PVAMU was founded on in 1876 continues to thrive today, with an all-hands-on-deck approach to philanthropy. It’s easy to learn about the numerous ways to give back to PVAMU.
