President Ruth J. Simmons will be sponsoring one faculty member, one staff person, one current student and one alumnus/alumna to fly to Washington, D.C., to attend the Prairie View A&M University summer Alumni Reception on June 15, 2019 and visit the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History & Culture.

Winners will receive one round trip airfare, a two-night stay at a Washington, D.C. hotel and two tickets (for the winner and a guest) to the PVAMU summer Alumni Reception.

WHO CAN ENTER

  1. An alumnus/alumna must be a graduate of Prairie View A&M University. A graduate is defined as someone having received either an undergraduate or graduate degree from the university.
  2. To be eligible, entrants must be a current faculty member, staff person, enrolled student or an alumnus/alumna of Prairie View A&M University.
  3. Entrants must be at least 18 years of age or older.
  4. Employees of third-party vendors that work with the university are ineligible unless they are an alumnus/alumna of the university or a currently enrolled student. If you are an employee of a third party vendor, you must receive written permission from your employer to enter and you must adhere to all paid/unpaid time off rules of your employer should you be selected as a winner.

HOW TO ENTER

  1. Contestants must submit a 500-1000 word essay or a 3-5 minute video on the topic: ā€œWhat is your defining moment at Prairie View A&M University?ā€
  2. All entries must be submitted online using the form below.
    1. No purchase is necessary to enter. Only one entry allowed per person.Ā  Participants who fit in more than one eligibility category (i.e. faculty member who is also an alumna/alumnus), must choose one category in which to submit an essay.
    2. All submissions must be original works.
    3. The contest starts on March 25, 2019 and all entries must be received by Prairie View A&M University by 11:59 p.m. CST on April 22, 2019. Prairie View A&M University is not responsible for lost, late, or misdirected entries, printing errors, server unavailability, computer, or any other electronic malfunction.
    4. On May 1, 2019, one winner from each category will be selected by the Winner Selection Committee.Ā  Committee members will be selected by the Office of the President.

PRIZES

  1. Each winner will be notified by the Prairie View A&M University Winner Selection Committee. Before claiming the prize, the winner must provide one form of identification; his/her correct name, address; e-mail address and telephone number to Prairie View A&M University at the time of notification.
  2. Prairie View A&M University reserves the right to examine additional identification to determine eligibility including, but not limited to, Human Resources files, Student Registrar Records and Alumni Databases, and may choose to accept or deny awarding the prize based on the identification presented and the results of the eligibility examination.
  3. If a winner cannot be notified within fourteen (14) days, or is deemed ineligible by the Winner Selection Committee, then the prize will be forfeited, and the prize will be awarded to an alternate winner selected from remaining valid entries.
  4. There will be no substitutions or cash alternatives for any prize. No transfer or assignment of the prize is allowed.
  5. Each winner is responsible for paying all local, county, state and federal taxes on prizes based on the estimated retail value of the prizes. Each winner may have to complete and sign a Form W-9.
  6. Prairie View A&M University is not responsible for any liability arising directly or indirectly from the use of the prize.
  7. Four (4) winners will be selected. The winners will receive one round-trip airfare to Washington DC, paid hotel expenses for two nights and two tickets to attend the Prairie View A&M University Alumni Reception in Washington, D.C., being held at the Smithsonian National Museum of African American Museum History & Culture. Please note: Meals will be paid based on the per diem allowable as per Texas A&M University and Prairie View A&M University travel policy.
  8. In claiming your prize, you acknowledge that Prairie View A&M University has the right to publicize your name, character, likeness, photograph, voice and the fact that you are the winner for promotional purposes without financial remuneration.

Odds of Winning/Miscellaneous

  1. Odds of winning depend on the number of valid entries received.
  2. This contest is subject to all applicable laws and regulations and is void where prohibited.Ā  Prairie View A&M University accepts no responsibility or liability in connection with any injuries, losses or damages of any kind caused by or resulting from the acceptance, possession or use of any prize awarded hereunder.
  3.   4. Prairie View A&M University reserves the right to make rules and contest changes, and change the aforementioned contest dates.
  5. By entering this contest, each entrant waives any and all claims of liability against Prairie View A&M University, and affiliates, officers, directors, employees and agents, for any and all claims, loss, damage or injury which may occur as a result of entrantā€™s participation in this contest.
