PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas (March 15, 2022) – The 2022 American Society for Engineering Education Gulf-Southwest Section Conference takes place at Prairie View A&M University March 16-18, promoting “Engineering Education for Productive People: Preparing Students for the Changing Work Environments.”

This will be only the second time in 16 years that a Historically Black College/University has hosted an ASEE GSW Conference since the premiere engineering education organization was founded in 1893.
“The Roy G. Perry College of Engineering is excited to host the 2022 ASEE GSW conference,” said John Attia, Ph.D., professor of electrical engineering at PVAMU. “There is recognition amongst Gulf Southwest institutions that PVAMU has the resources in place to organize and execute the ASEE GSW conference. I am glad that several departments, administrators, faculty members and students have been very supportive in assisting the College of Engineering in hosting the conference.”
Attia, who chairs the conference, said the conference is expected to attract approximately 120 participants from 16 universities, including schools from Texas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Maryland and Virginia.
As the theme suggests, conference presentations will focus on preparing students for the ever-changing workforce environment.
Topics of discussion would include:
- Increasing student engagement
- Design in engineering education
- Innovations in engineering education
- Computers in education
- Engineering leadership
- Equity, diversity and inclusion in engineering
“A significant number of papers were written by students and faculty members at PVAMU,” said Attia. “The presentation of the papers will show institutions in the nation the various research work and engineering education projects that are taking place on the campus of PVAMU.”
Conference participants will also be given a tour of the College of Engineering laboratories, said Attia, so they may “observe for themselves some of the cutting-edge research work taking place at PVAMU.”

Obiomon. “This premier conference will provide resources and networking opportunities for the engineering community. Faculty, staff, students, administrators and engineering professionals will have thought-provoking conversations and exchange ideas and information that will enhance teaching methods and the engineering curricula.”
