Prairie View A&M University is the second oldest public institution of higher education in the State of Texas. Upon your arrival, we will do all that we can to ensure that you have a wonderful and memorable experience here at Prairie View A&M University.

PVAMU is a walking campus. Be sure you wear comfortable shoes and drink plenty of water in preparation to view our beautiful and growing campus. Please prepare for inclement weather as the city of Prairie View can incur rain, winds, hot and cold weather during specific times of the year.

High school students are highly encouraged to verify with your high school that your transcript has been sent to the University. If you have received an email informing you that your transcript has not been received in the Office of Admissions. It is very important that the items listed below are received promptly after you have applied to the university. You can bring these items with you on your tour in a sealed envelope.

  • High School Transcript
  • Collegiate transcript (Dual Credit)
  • ACT/SAT scores, STAAR scores (typically included on High School Transcript)
  • $40 application fee or application fee waiver

Directions to Prairie View A&M University. Review your map or GPS on how to get to Prairie View A&M University. The Welcome Center is located on the intersection of University Drive and T.R. Solomon St. After you have arrived on campus, you must acquire a parking space.

Visitor Parking Information

All vehicles parked on the campus must have a valid PVAMU parking permit. Visitor permits are only good for one day. If you plan to be with us more than one day, please obtain a new visitor pass each day. Visitor Parking Information >

Faculty and Staff who invite visitors to campus should assure that ALL visitors obtain a Visitor Parking Permit from the Thomas E. Gray Information Center located near the campus entrance. Parking is in a designated Visitor Parking Zone. We ask that all visitors to refrain from parking in the areas designated for faculty, staff and students, unless prior arrangements are made through Parking Management.

Parent Information

Parents visiting campus for the first time should stop by the Information Center located near the campus entrance in building 20 for information. All visitors will need to pay for a Visitor Parking Permit through the ParkMobile app.

Visitor Permit

  • All vehicles parked on campus must display a valid Prairie View A&M University parking permit. Visitor permits are valid for one day only. If you plan to be with us more than one day, please obtain a new visitors pass each day. Park only in designated parking zones.
  • Faculty and Staff must ensure that their visitors obtain a visitors permit from ParkMobile. Parking must be in a designated Visitor Parking Zone.
  • Visitor Permits are available through ParkMobile.
  • Parking is limited to designated Visitor Parking Zones.
  • University Affiliates without a system Parking Permit who park on campus are required to purchase a Visitor’s Permit, and park in a designated Visitor Parking Zone.
  • Exceptions must be approved by the Parking Management Office.
  • Faculty, staff, and students are not classified as visitors and may not use the assigned designated areas marked for visitors only with their PVAMU Permit. Faculty, staff and students may park in Visitor Zones, but must pay the daily rate to park there.
  • For Buses – Parking is Free. You will be able to park the bus towards the back of Lot #96, which is the parking lot at the Welcome Center.
  • For Disability/Handicapped – Anyone parking on campus with a valid state-issued disabled permit or a license plate (including disabled veteran license plates) may park in any designated disabled parking space is available, with a valid disabled hangtag displayed. Hangtag must belong to the driver of the vehicle.

Visitors attending a Campus Tour

Proceed to the Welcome Center and Park in Lot# 96. Please park in a visitors parking space only, you must use the ParkMobile app. Please refer to the logo below to ensure you download the correct app. The ParkMobile App Zone 11210.

  • After adding the App Zone, enter the space number painted on the concrete in the parking spot. It will be a four digit number.
  • Lastly, proceed to the payment screen. The parking fee is $5 per day.

Please note, campus tours will not be held on special event days or when the University is closed. If the University is open and we have inclement weather, tours are subject to cancellation. (i.e., lightning overhead, Ice storm, etc.) We cannot permit a walking tour to start or continue outside for your safety. Tour sessions will be closed during academic breaks and holidays.

You must be registered to attend a campus tour.

Entering the Welcome Center

To enter the Welcome Center you are encouraged to read the Covid-19 Guidelines.

  • Face coverings
  • Social distancing of at least 6 feet between attendees is required.
  • Attendance tracking for all present is expected.
  • COVID-19 symptom self-checks are required of each attendee. Those showing symptoms should not attend. Attendees that exhibit symptoms at the event should be sent home, and the organizer should contact the COVID-19 Hotline at (936) 261-9000.
  • A disinfection/cleaning protocol for high touch surfaces must be established.
  • The ability to wash/sanitize hands before and during the event must be provided.
  • Avoid the distribution of printed materials or physical items and utilize digital distribution when possible.
  • Event organizers should prioritize holding events outside when possible.
  • As circumstances are constantly evolving, event organizers should develop a contingency plan if a face-to-face event must be canceled due to public health concerns.

The Campus Visit Experience (Campus Tour) begins with a 10-15 minute information session and presentation from a Campus Tour Guide or University Recruiter, who will give you key insights into the admissions process, financial aid, scholarships, and more. Afterward, a student tour guide will lead you across our beautiful campus.

Campus Tours detail the academic and social life on campus from a student’s perspective. Lasting approximately 45 – 60 Minutes, the campus tour includes a visit to the residential hall (residence hall tours are contingent upon availability), a look at several academic facilities, and more.

Cafeteria Information

If you plan on eating lunch on campus through Sodexo (The Dining Area in the Memorial Student Center (MSC), the cost will be $7.45 for breakfast, $9.94 for lunch and $10.24 for dinner per person. The MSC Dining Facility is located on LW Minor Street and is across the street from the Panther Stadium. If you are paying by company check or a group of 10 or more, you must inform Sodexo Services in advance. If your company/school is tax-exempt, you should email your tax-exempt form to tlreese@pvamu.edu. Tax-Exempt cost is $6.89 for breakfast, $9.18 for lunch and $9.46 for dinner. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Do I need to bring anything specific for my visit?

Wear comfortable clothes, shoes and/or productive wear such as a hat, glasses or gloves. Summertime can get very hot and humid, so please dress appropriately. We recommend checking the weather before your visit, as well as bringing a refillable water bottle to campus. We have various locations for you to fill up your water bottles along our campus tour route.

Can we bring documents for our admissions process?

We highly encourage you to bring documents that include your HS transcript, ACT/SAT test scores, and fee waivers. Please ensure all documents are in a sealed envelope with the student’s first and last name; the name of high school and/or college. If you are in need of submitting your application fee, please visit https://secure.touchnet.com/C20166_ustores/web/store_main.jsp?STOREID=1 to submit you $40 undergraduate application fee or $50 graduate application fee.

Do we visit the book store?

The tour ends at the Willie A. Tempton Memorial Student Center (MSC) the bookstore is located inside of the building right in front of the panther statue.

How can I edit, cancel, or reschedule my visit?

You can edit or cancel this program. You can log into your account to cancel and select a new date to attend. If you have issues call (936) 261-1081 or email recruitment@pvamu.edu to reschedule your visit, select another date and register for that date and you will receive a confirmation for that date.

Are Pets Allowed?

Please note, although we love furry friends, we prefer that pets are not brought on campus tours. Service animals are always welcome.

I play a sport at my high school. Can I meet with a coach?

The Office of Recruitment is not able to schedule athletic appointments. You or your coach should contact the appropriate PVAMU coach for information about the recruitment process for athletics. We can only accommodate Walking Tours at this time.

Directions to Campus

From Austin: Take Hwy. 290 east toward Houston.
Exit Prairie View / FM 1098 and turn left at the light onto University Drive. University Drive will take you directly to campus.
From Baton Rouge: Take I-10 west to Houston.
Take I-610 north to Hwy. 290 west toward Austin.
Exit Prairie View/FM 1098 and then turn right at the light onto University Drive. University Drive will run directly on campus.

From Dallas: Take I-35 south to Waco, then turn left (east) onto Hwy 6 to Hempstead.
Exit Hwy. 290 East/Hwy 6 toward Houston.
Go approximately 5 miles on Hwy. 290, and then exit Prairie View / FM 1098. Turn left at the light onto University Drive.
University Drive will run directly on campus.
From Dallas: Take I-45 south toward Houston.
Exit Hwy 75 south in Madisonville and then take Hwy 90 west to Navasota. In Navasota take Hwy 6 east (left turn) onto Hwy 6 to Hempstead.
Exit Hwy. 290 East/Hwy 6 toward Houston.
Go approximately five miles on Hwy. 290, and then exit Prairie View / FM 1098. Turn left at the light onto University Drive. University Drive will run directly on campus.

From Fort Worth: Take I-35 south to Waco, then turn left (east) onto Hwy 6 to Hempstead.
Exit Hwy. 290 east/Hwy 6 toward Houston.
Go approximately 5 miles on Hwy. 290, and then exit Prairie View / FM 1098.
Turn left at the light onto University Drive.
University Drive will run to the campus.

From San Antonio: Take I-10 east toward Houston.
In Sealy take Hwy. 36 east (left) to Bellville and then take Hwy 159 north to Hempstead.
In Hempstead make a right at Austin Street (should be the first stop sign).
Make a left on Business 290 (first traffic light), and then take Hwy. 290 east toward Houston (right turn after passing Lawrence Marshall Dealerships).
Go approximately five miles and exit Prairie View / FM 1098 then turn left at the light onto University Drive. University Drive will run to the campus.

Shreveport (Hobby Airport): Take I-20 west and then exit Hwy. 79 south.
Take Hwy. 79 south toward Carthage, Texas and then take Hwy. 59 south toward Houston.
In Cleveland take Hwy. 105 west to Conroe, and then take I-45 south to FM 1488.
Continue on FM 1488 thru Magnolia to FM 1098.
Stay straight onto FM 1098 (FM 1488 will turn right, Do Not Turn).
Make a left at the traffic light onto University Drive will run to the campus.

From Houston (Bush Intercontinental Airport): Take John F Kennedy Boulevard south (going toward I-45) to Beltway 8 West ramp.
Stay on Beltway 8 West; it becomes the Sam Houston Tollway (you will have to pay toll road fare). From the Sam Houston Tollway, exit Highway 290 west toward Austin.
Go approximately 30 miles on Hwy. 290, and then exit Prairie View/FM 1098. Turn right at the light onto University Drive. University Drive will run directly on campus.

From Houston (Hobby Airport): Take Broadway to the I-45 North to I-10 West to I-610 north to Hwy. 290 north.
Take the Prairie View / FM 1098 exit and turn right at the light onto University Drive. University Drive will run directly on campus.

Shreveport (Hobby Airport): Take I-20 west and then exit Hwy. 79 south.
Take Hwy. 79 south toward Carthage, Texas and then take Hwy. 59 south toward Houston.
In Cleveland take Hwy. 105 west to Conroe, and then take I-45 south to FM 1488.
