PVUTeachPVU Teach is a Teacher Certification Program for undergraduate students in STEM fields. Programs like this are generally completed as a masterās degree, but at Prairie View A&M University, you get the opportunity to gain teacher certification while also pursuing an undergraduate major in a STEM discipline.
STEM students can differentiate themselves from other candidates for medical school, graduate school, or jobs through this certification program. Teacher certification is often seen as a plus when applying to medical or graduate school.
Strengthen your knowledge in your science, engineering, and math courses by learning about inquiry-based teaching and learning.
There is a desperate shortage of qualified math and science teachers in Texas and across the country.
Teachers help shape the future. Whether you leave PVAMU and teach for a short time until graduate school or teach for a lifetime, well-prepared and committed teachers can make a difference in the lives of students.
Is teaching the right path for you?
Take an introductory teaching course as a freshman to see if teaching is the right path for you! The first two one-credit introductory classes allow you the opportunity to teach in a high school to see if teaching is right for you.
CURR 2101 - Step 1: Inquiry Approaches to Teaching
This one-credit course will introduce teaching as a career. You will work with PVAMU master teachers and experienced public school teachers to develop and implement science or math lessons in local school classrooms.
CURR 2102 - Step 2: Inquiry-Based Lesson Design
In this one-credit course, you will build upon the lesson design and teaching approaches you learned in CURR 2101 and apply them to the high school level. You will have the opportunity to teach science or math lessons to local school children.
