Developed in partnership with UNCF, The Slater-Millner Scholars Program will provide need-based scholarships to BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and people of color) rising college sophomores majoring in Pre-Medicine with a demonstrated interest in providing healthcare to underserved communities. Selected recipients will receive $2,500 in the sophomore year, $5,000 in the junior year, and $7,500 in the senior year, and access to the Ascension Medical Educators – Aspiring Physicians Program to receive advising and mentoring services. Preference will be given to applicants who reside in or are permanent residents of, the state of Massachusetts.

Applicants who do not meet all eligibility and application requirements will not be considered for this scholarship opportunity.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Have a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.8 on a 4.0 scale.
  2. Be currently classified as a college freshman, and will be enrolled as a full-time college sophomore for the 2022-2023 academic year at any US-located accredited 4-year college or university.
  3. Be African American/Black, Hispanic American/Latinx, American Indian or Alaska Native, Hmong, Cambodian, Vietnamese, or Native Hawaiian in identification as one of the racial/ethnic groups underrepresented in medicine.
  4. Be a US citizen or permanent US resident, or provide documentation to confirm Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) status.
  5. Have a declared Pre-Medicine major or a comparable curricular tract for Allopathic or Osteopathic Medicine.
  6. Have completed the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) (with an exception for DACA students), and have a demonstrated unmet financial need as verified by the applicant’s institution.

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  1. A current unofficial college transcript or screenshot of current college academic record.
  2. Two 350-500 word essays (see the application for details).
  3. DACA applicants must upload documentation confirming their DACA status.

Selected finalists will be contacted by UNCF in July 2022, and shall be required to submit an official transcript and copy of their financial aid award letter.

Applicants who have submitted complete applications will be notified of scholarship decisions by October 1, 2022.’
