October 4 – Agribusiness students in the Prairie View A&M University (PVAMU) College of Agriculture and Human Sciences (CAHS) will now have another opportunity to go beyond the classroom and get practical experience in their studies.
Recently, a group of CAHS students launched the Agribusiness Club to provide students in the college opportunities to gain further knowledge of agricultural industries and hands-on experience in agriculture industry management practices.
The club is open to all agriculture majors and will meet every first and third Monday of the month. The club’s president Robert Lewis said the AgriBusiness club is a good choice for all CAHS students because it touches on all areas of the agricultural industry.
“Students need to study AgriBusiness because agriculture is the foundation of everything we know, from the food we eat, the water we drink, and the land we build on,” Lewis said. “Understanding the production, distribution, and economics of the agricultural industry will open doors for students in the future that could aid in the world we live in today.”
Sunil Dhoubhadel, Ph.D., serves as the club’s faculty advisor and said students who join the organization can reap many benefits from membership.
“The AgriBusiness Club students benefit from this organization because they can visit different agribusiness companies and learn about the various aspects of production, processing, marketing, and trading of agricultural products beyond the farm gate. The club also provides opportunities for volunteer activities in the community, developing fundraising skills, and learning beyond the classroom,” Dhoubhadel said.
The club has already held its first meeting in September and voted on its board members. In addition to Lewis serving as president, the board members include Joshua Cooper as vice president, April Taylor as secretary, Skyler Antwi as treasurer, and Taylor Stewart as historian.
