The College of Agriculture and Human Sciences (CAHS) is hosting a virtual panel discussion in observance of Earth Day on Thursday, April 22 at 10:30 a.m.

The panel features guest speakers include Michael Robotham, Ph.D., associate director for the Soils Information, Soil and Plant Science Division at United States Department of Agriculture-Natural Resources Conservation Service; Samuel David Brody, Ph.D., Rice University adjunct professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering; and Tala Awada, Ph.D., associate dean, and director of the Agricultural Research Division at the Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources.

In addition to the panel discussion, Prairie View A&M University (PVAMU) students can participate in the Earth Day Essay Contest. This year’s contest theme is “Restoring Our Earth,” and topics can discuss how the use of conservation practices, plant-based diets, animal agriculture, etc., can aid in the restoration of our Earth.

The top three essay contest winners will be announced and recognized at a virtual ceremony preceding the Earth Day Panel Discussion. Participants will receive a certificate in addition to cash prizes of $100, $75, and $50, respectively. Electronic submissions should be emailed to alfares@pvamu.edu. The deadline for electronic submissions is 11:59 p.m. on April 20, 2021.
