PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas (Dec. 20, 2023) — In the dynamic realm of business academia, excellence shines through the collaborative efforts of individuals like Nakiayah Patterson ’23, a dedicated and recent Master of Business Administration graduate of the College of Business at Prairie View A&M University. Before graduating from PVAMU this fall, Patterson garnered acclaim by clinching the Outstanding Research Paper Award at the prestigious 2023 International Conference on Management Information Systems alongside her esteemed mentors, Mahfouz Ahmed, Ph.D., and Kishwar Joonas, Ph.D.

Hosted at Chitkara University in Bangkok, Thailand, this achievement was a testament to their groundbreaking work on the paper titled ‘Implementation of an Electronic Record System for Orlando Health.’ The recognition extended beyond the conference, as the paper was fast-tracked for acceptance and subsequently published in the esteemed AIMS International Journal of Management (Volume 17, Number 3)

The AIMS International Journal of Management has been a beacon of scholarly discussion since 2007. As a double-masked refereed journal, it provides an international platform for discussions on management advancements, spanning diverse areas, such as accounting, marketing, finance, organizational behavior, human resource management, and more. Published by AIMS International, the journal is indexed in esteemed databases, including ResearchBib, EBSCO, ResearchGate, and Google Scholars, reinforcing the impact and reach of Patterson’s research.

Holding a Bachelor of Science degree from Saint Elizabeth University, Patterson brings a wealth of experience as a business technology leader Intern at IBM in Dallas, Texas, where she leads the planning and implementation of an improved onboarding process for new hires. Her expertise also extends to healthcare software implementation, a field in which she excelled as a consultant in government services at Cerner Corporation in Kansas City, Missouri.

As Patterson continues her professional journey, she plans to join IBM full-time, specifically in the Client Engineering department, where she aspires to contribute as a business technology leader. Her commitment to excellence and innovation in the business and technology sectors is evident in her impressive track record.

Dr. Joonas, a tenured associate professor of marketing at PVAMU, and Dr. Mahfouz, an associate professor of management information systems, were the guiding forces behind Patterson’s success. With a wealth of experience and a solid commitment to student development, both professors have a track record of engaging students in multidisciplinary research.

The collaborative research culture is deeply ingrained at the University and College of Business. Drs. Joonas and Mahfouz have presented collaborative graduate and undergraduate student research at numerous national and international conferences, showcasing PVAMU’s commitment to multidisciplinary research.
