Dr. Alta Mosby is a higher education professional, Academic Advisor II, and CliftonStrengths-based coach at Prairie View A&M University with more than 15 years of experience spanning K–12 and higher education. Her career reflects a longstanding commitment to student success, academic progression, leadership development, and institutional effectiveness through strategic, student-centered practices.
 
Dr. Mosby began her career in K–12 education, where her teaching experience spanned multiple grade levels and disciplines. She taught all core subject areas at the elementary level, science at the middle school level, and served as both a choir director and band director. This diverse instructional background provided her with a comprehensive understanding of student development across academic and creative disciplines while strengthening her ability to adapt instruction, cultivate student potential, build meaningful relationships, and lead diverse learning environments. These experiences continue to shape her approach to advising, coaching, mentorship, and educational leadership.
 
With expertise extending beyond traditional academic advising, Dr. Mosby contributes to strategic student outreach, registration initiatives, curriculum collaboration, academic programming, and cross-campus partnerships. She is passionate about transforming complex institutional processes into accessible, meaningful experiences that empower students to take ownership of their educational journeys and confidently navigate pathways toward degree completion.
 
As a CliftonStrengths-based coach, Dr. Mosby integrates personalized guidance, relationship-building, and intentional development to help students recognize and leverage their strengths, navigate challenges, and maximize their potential. Her leadership approach reflects her strengths in Strategic Thinking, Adaptability, Relator, Learner, and Arranger and is grounded in service, collaboration, accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.
 
Dr. Mosby earned a Bachelor of Arts from Alcorn State University, where she was a member of the marching band—an experience that further cultivated her appreciation for discipline, teamwork, tradition, and collective excellence. She continued her education by earning an Associate of Applied Science in Business Technology. Dr. Mosby later earned a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in Instructional Technology from Prairie View A&M University and a Master of Education in Educational Administration from Houston Baptist University. She also holds a Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Executive Educational Leadership from Houston Baptist University.
 
Through her work as an advisor, educator, coach, and collaborative leader, Dr. Mosby brings together the perspectives of K–12 education, higher education, academic advising, leadership, technology, and strengths-based development. Her multidisciplinary background—from elementary and middle school classrooms and music education to university advising and educational leadership—provides a distinctive perspective on the full educational journey and the evolving needs of students.
 
At the heart of Dr. Mosby’s work is a commitment to helping people recognize what is possible and equipping them with the knowledge, confidence, and resources to move forward.
