Revitalizing Game-Day Energy
Panther Stadium Banners

Objective

The main goal of this project was to boost fan attendance through revitalizing the visual presentation of the stadium. We wanted to develop an eye-catching and high-energy environment which would appeal to students together with faculty members staff and alumni and corporate partners. The design required both athletic energy and the core message of “Where Champions Are Built” which forms a central element of our athletics brand. The design needed to inspire school pride alongside unity and visual appeal to grab the attention of people walking by.

Challenge

The Panther Stadium encountered major problems due to inadequate fan turnout and decreasing ticket revenue. Since the stadium opened over 10 years ago the banners displayed at the stadium have remained unchanged thus becoming unaligned with the university’s modern athletics identity. These banners failed to capture the energy and excitement needed to create an engaging environment for fans. The stadium’s banners appeared uninviting because they were uncolorful while their non-relation to the developing athletics program led to small fan numbers and decreasing ticket sales.

The project faced major obstacles which stemmed from both time constraints and logistical challenges. The project started with scarce pre-design materials because we had only two football players available for photoshoots who needed to stay anonymous. The project faced severe time constraints since the two previous vendors who previously attempted could not meet the design requirements as envisioned. Therefore, we instead took on the design in-house with our sole designer, Tyrell Irby and sole photographer, Nicholas Hunt. With the timeline narrowing down we were left with only seven days before the design deadline.

Results

The newly designed banners brought an instant and enduring transformation to the stadium’s visual appearance. The curvilinear design elements that represented “The Hill” and “Where Champions Are Built” drew audience attention which enhanced the game-day atmosphere. The project managed to boost both stadium engagement, retain all sponsors while adding an additional two sponsors, and increasing revenue numbers substantially despite working under limited time and resources.
