Dr. Bernadine Duncan, DirectorDr. Bernadine Duncan, Director
Student Counseling Services


Dr. Bernadine Duncan is the Director of Student Counseling Services at Prairie View A&M University where she provides mental health services to the PVAMU student community. In addition, she is an adjunct professor in the Educational Leadership and Counseling Department where she teaches among others courses career counseling, theories, professional orientation, human growth and development, and cross-cultural counseling. She developed a learning community model at PVAMU for master’s and doctoral-level graduate students called the C.L.I.M.B. model and co-authored two articles on The Usage of the SREB Critical Success Factors in Developing Teacher Leaders to Assume Instructional Leadership Responsibilities in the International Journal of Teacher Leadership (2009) and A Model for Establishing Learning Communities at a HBCU in Graduate Classes in the Journal of Negro Education (2008). She is a Licensed Professional Counselor, a National Certified Counselor, and a licensed supervisor for LPC’s. She also serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Research Association of Minority Professors. Dr. Duncan strongly believes in giving back and lifting up those in need.

Carla Guice, LPCCarla Guice, LPC
Professional Counselor


Carla Guice is a Professional Counselor with the Student Counseling Services. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), licensed by the Texas State Board of Examiners of Professional Counselor. Mrs. Guice graduated from the University of Houston-Sugar Land Campus in May 2008 with a Master of Education in Counseling. She holds a Bachelor’s of Arts Degree in Broadcast Journalism from State University of New York College at Buffalo. Mrs. Guice has more than five years’ experience working with diverse groups of individuals in a university setting and in inpatient and outpatient environments, as well as in private practice and various community agencies. As a therapist, she offers her clients an opportunity to explore their feelings, discover inner strengths, and resolve personal struggles. Mrs. Guice specializes in addressing the needs of women and enjoys helping women manage their changing roles and the many demands of today.

Mattie CriddellMattie Criddell
Office Manager


Mattie Criddell is the Administrative Assistant and Office Manager in Student Counseling Services. She was previously the senior secretary in the Educational Leadership and Counseling Department at Prairie View A&M University where she assisted in helping graduate students move to the next level of their development. Ms. Criddell has been in the field of helping others in need all of her life as she was a Staff Pastor of the Prayer Ministry for The Church Without Walls in Houston, Texas. In addition “Pastor Mattie” has written nine devotionals on prayer and fasting for TCWW, among them “Extraordinary Prayer” and “Forty Days With God”, “Road to Resurrection”, “In God We Trust”, “Keeping a True Fast”, and “Prayers of the Pastor”. She released her first self-published book “My Soul Sings Jesus” in 2009. She is dedicated to helping those who have lost their way.
