In today’s world, agribusiness entrepreneurs need technical knowledge and business-related skills to be successful. The Bachelor of Science in Agriculture degree with Agribusiness concentration at PVAMU fulfills that need. The Agribusiness curriculum integrates economic and business management principles with technical knowledge in agriculture production systems management. Students take courses in agricultural economics, agricultural marketing, food distribution system, agricultural policy, agricultural price analysis, financial analysis and accounting, and agri-business management principles to get business-related knowledge and skills. They also take courses in crops and animal science, soil science, animal nutrition, agricultural engineering, natural resources management, entomology, and animal diseases and sanitation to learn cutting-edge agricultural production systems management techniques, emphasizing hands-on experience. These courses provide a holistic understanding and knowledge of the U.S. agriculture systems and prepare our students to succeed as agribusiness managers and professionals.

Students with an agribusiness degree can pursue careers as loan officers, credit analysts, agricultural policy and market analysts, farm managers, grain merchandisers, commodity traders, sales managers, crop insurance underwriters, and agricultural consultants.

The PVAMU Agribusiness faculty are well-emerged in conducting research addressing various issues U.S. farmers and agribusinesses face. Their research agenda includes issues in farm management, agricultural production, markets, trade, agricultural and food industrial organization, natural resources, and disaster management, focusing on resource-poor small and disadvantaged farmers and ranchers.
