Cooperative Extension Program’s Success Seekers 4-H Club in McLennan County celebrated FCS Day by preparing a meal for their families. Using the celebration’s inaugural theme, “Dine In for Healthy Families”, club’s members prepared enchilada rice, mashed sweet potatoes, fruit kabobs and coconut pecan cookies. Similar to food challenge, club members had 45 minutes to prepare a meal and a nutrition-based presentation, as well as, clean and decorate the room, all before their family members arrived. The Blue Panthers, Success Seekers food challenge team, provided leadership by creating the menu and assigning the cooking responsibilities. Younger club members were in charge of choosing the event’s décor and decorating the room.

Family members said they enjoyed watching their children’s food show and food challenge practice and hard work on display. Family members and club members alike also said they hope to continue the FCS Day event and even suggested scheduling a mini-food challenge featuring parent and child teams next year.
