PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas (August 25, 2020) – Beta Alpha Psi (BAP), the international honor and service organization for financial and business information students, is returning to Prairie View A&M University (PVAMU) this fall.

Beta Alpha Psi

PVAMU’s Nu Psi chapter of BAP has been inactive over the last few years due to member turnover and an incomplete full executive board to monitor the recruitment process. Audria Ford, the chapter’s primary advisor, was one of the new leadership members involved in reinstating Nu Psi.

“We were able to revive Nu Psi by hosting organization callouts and sending direct email and invitations to spread the word to accounting, finance, and management information systems students,” said Ford, faculty coordinator for student organizations and a professor of finance in the College of Business. “Last fall, a new group of undergraduate and graduate students was established, and they were able to work collectively with faculty advisors to meet all of the requirements needed to re-establish the PVAMU chapter of Beta Alpha Psi.”

BAP seeks to encourage and recognize scholastic and professional excellence in the business information field, promote the study and practice of accounting, finance, and information systems, and provide opportunities for self-development, service, and association among members and practicing professionals. Founded in 1919, the honor society has more than 400 college and university chapters and has initiated more than 300,000 members.

BAP is great for students because it provides excellent leadership opportunities and allows them to build their network of peers, faculty, and members of the profession before entering the workforce,” Ford said. “Students are also given the opportunity to sharpen their presentation and teamwork skills to foster success now and in the future.”

Community businesses are encouraged to partner with BAP through the organization’s buddy-mentor program, which assigns professional mentors to chapter members in an effort to inspire and support student excellence through professional development, community service, and professional networking.

A few weeks ago, a virtual inauguration ceremony was held to initiate nine PVAMU students into the Nu Psi chapter and install officers for the 2020-21 school term. To become a member of BAP, students must maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher and exhibit outstanding leadership, communication, and teamwork skills.

PVAMU’s Beta Alpha Psi members include Harun Jones, president; Katelyn Davis, vice president of special affairs & activities; Daa’iyah Ford, treasurer; Brandon Barnes, national reporting officer; Harrison Thompson, vice president of management information systems; Reid Blanchard, member; Caleb Broach, member; Taylor Longshaw, member; and Arhmani Millage, member.
