The purpose of Destination Pantherland is to welcome incoming freshmen to Prairie View A&M University. Upon arrival, attendees were greeted by alumni volunteers, cheerleaders, and the Panther Dolls Dance Team.  The cheerleaders set the tone for the celebration by teaching guests traditional chants and cheers. Multiple divisions from Student Affairs, including the Parent Program, Career Services, as well as Housing and Student Engagement, were present to help freshmen and their parents navigate academics and life on campus. There were approximately 90 attendees.

Glenda Jones, director of career services, provided an overview of the resources available to assist students with career planning. Parents received information about the Parent Program, Family and Friends Weekend, and ways to support the university through the Annual Fund Parent Program. Students were excited to receive their first official Class of 2023 t-shirts welcoming them to Pantherland.  When asked about the event, Nicole Evans, a parent of an incoming freshman, said, “We are excited to join the PVAMU family. We thoroughly enjoyed Destination Pantherland and felt a very warm welcome from the staff and alumni while having the opportunity to meet other incoming freshmen and their families. Learning about PV traditions, Homecoming and chants from our daughter and other cheerleaders was a hoot!! We look forward to this next chapter!!

P…….. V! U Know!!!”

Director of Annual Fund LaShonda Williams said, “This is our second year hosting the send-off celebration.  We are grateful for our alumni volunteers who assisted in the Dallas Forth Worth Metropolitan area.  This event is one of many ways we plan to engage students, parents, and alumni as we continue to promote a culture of philanthropy.”
