CON open housePrairie View A&M University’s College of Nursing held its annual Spring Open House on April 19.

“Reporting over 160 potential students, the largest attendance in the history of the event, made it a very special occasion,” said Dr. Forest Dent Smith, director of Admissions and Student Services.

Dozens of local high school students interested in the nursing profession attended. There were also students present from the Houston Community College System, Lone Star College, San Jacinto College, University of Houston, Texas Southern University and Western Governors University.

“Tangela Woodland-Ballard, who is pursuing her third nursing degree, a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) from the College of Nursing, gave students information about our bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral Nursing programs,” said Smith.

After being greeted by Smith and Dr. Philisie Washington, director of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program, students received University information from Enrollment Services represented by Community College Recruiter Vernon Henry and Verlicia Pope, a freshman admission counselor.

“In addition, attendees had the opportunity to tour our state-of-the-art nursing building, simulation laboratories, and interact with CON students, faculty, and staff,” said Smith.

The college’s next Open House is November 15.
