There are 2 ways to use Turnitin, and the links below address both from the faculty perspective.

Turnitin LTI 1.3, formerly called the External Tool, is used when adding a Turnitin link for submissions that do not require the SpeedGrader. Also it does not work as well with the Canvas gradebook. The link is added to the Assignments page by clicking the ellipses button next to the + Assignment button. Similarity reports, grading, feedback, and other functions are provided within a Turnitin-like environment.

The Turnitin Plagiarism Framework is used when creating an assignment in Canvas for submissions that will be directly connected to the Canvas gradebook. It’s added using the standard Canvas assignment tool set to the “Online” Submission Type with Text Entry or File Uploads. A similarity report is generated and the assignment can be used with Canvas’s group and peer reviewing functions.

Turnitin Similarity Reports

Are you working on a research project and need to run similarity checks on your work outside of a regular class?

Use our PV-All-User-TurnItIn-Submissions course in Canvas. This course is for PVAMU Students, Faculty, and Staff to submit work to TurnItIn for similarity checking. Please contact the PVAMU Center for Instructional Innovation and Technology Services at ciits@pvamu.edu to obtain the link to this course.
