PRAIRIE VIEW, TX – The Texas A&M University System (TAMUS) Board of Regents recently named Prairie View A&M University (PVAMU) Professor and Interim Executive Associate Director of the Cooperative Agricultural Research Center Alfred L. Parks, Ph.D., as a recipient of the Regents Professor Award.

Parks and 11 other faculty members system-wide have been recognized for their contributions to their university and community.

“The goal of the award is to develop relationships throughout the TAMUS,” Parks said. “In that regard, I want to use this opportunity to build new relationships with Texas AgriLife Research and AgriLife Extension.”

Parks has been an esteemed educator, mentor, and leader for more than 40 years. He has published various research articles on agriculture, agribusiness, farm production, and more.

In addition to his teaching efforts, Parks has been awarded over $5.5 million in funded grants to support teaching, research, and extension-related activities, chaired over 70 masters’ theses, and mentored many undergraduate students in research.

“We in the College of Agriculture and Human Sciences are delighted to hear of this honor bestowed upon Dr. Parks,” College of Agriculture and Human Sciences Dean and Director of Land Grant Programs Gerard D’Souza, Ph.D., said. “Dr. Parks has been an exemplary leader at PVAMU, and his enduring excellency is a bright light for our college. We are glad to know his work is celebrated beyond our campus.”

Parks has received numerous awards and honors, including the 2019 AAEA/Committee on the Opportunities and Status of Blacks in Agricultural Economics/Committee on Women in Agricultural Economics Legacy Award. Most recently, in 2020, he received the Experiment Station Section Excellence in Leadership Award from the Association of Research Directors. In 2021, Parks was named a 2021 Fellow by the Agricultural & Applied Economics Association — the organization’s most prestigious honor.
