April 11 – Nearly 50 gardeners attended Wharton County’s Backyard Gardening Workshop on Saturday, March 19, 2022, where they learned innovative and efficient gardening techniques and networked with other agriculture producers from the area.

Hosted by Wharton and Austin County Cooperative Extension Agent, Braxton Mitchell, the workshop focused on raised bed designs and container gardening. Guests learned the techniques for growing fruits and vegetables in their backyard and discovered effective land management methods, regardless of the size.

CEP’s Urban Ag Specialist Jeremy Peaches led a presentation on “Types of Designs & Grow Systems” and offered a practical demonstration of “Container and Raised Beds.” Garry Kroeger with the Bluebonnet Master Gardener Association taught the basics of “Growing Spring Vegetables.”
