Center of Banking Excellence
The Center of Banking Excellence (CoBE) prepares students for careers in banking, financial services, and commercial lending through experiential learning, industry partnerships, professional development, and community engagement. Building on the success of the Prairie View Summer Banking Academy, the center connects students with banking professionals, internships, mentorship opportunities, and specialized academic pathways that expand access to careers in one of the nation’s most essential industries. The center also advances financial literacy, workforce development, and research that promotes economic opportunities and sustainable community growth. By preparing diverse financial professionals, the Center contributes to stronger communities, greater financial inclusion, and increased economic prosperity.
Signature Programs
PV Summer Banking Academy
A nationally recognized summer program that combines classroom instruction, mentorship, internships, site visits, and job shadowing experiences with leading financial institutions and banking professionals. Since its launch, the academy has provided more than 100 students with direct exposure to the banking and fintech fields, career opportunities, certifications and AI training.
Banking Minor for All Majors & Certificate Option
Students at PVAMU can strengthen their career readiness by adding a minor in banking. The curriculum for the minor offers options for both business and non-business majors. Students who complete a designated three-course sequence are also eligible for a Commercial Lending Certificate, which aligns with American Bankers Association (ABA) standards and provides specialized knowledge that financial institutions value.
Banking Week & Industry Engagement
Connects students with banking executives and industry leaders through networking events, classroom presentations, career exploration activities, and professional development opportunities that help bridge the gap between academic preparation and employment.
Impact
The Center of Banking Excellence creates pathways to high-demand careers by providing students with industry connections, practical experience, professional credentials, and access to internships and employment opportunities. Through financial literacy initiatives and workforce development programs, the center also contributes to stronger communities and greater economic mobility.
