PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas (Sept. 14, 2026) – Prairie View A&M University’s Dr. Carmen R. Carter, inaugural dean of University College and assistant professor of the practice, has been selected to participate in the 2026 Emerging Leaders Program (ELP) through the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU).

Carter is among 45 higher education professionals selected for this year’s cohort. The program is designed to strengthen the leadership skills of mid- to senior-career academic and administrative professionals through professional development, mentorship, networking and hands-on leadership experience. Participants will also lead a project or initiative at their home institutions.

“I am especially grateful for the confidence placed in me through this endorsement and excited to represent Prairie View A&M University as a member of the ELP 2026 Cohort,” Carter said. “I look forward to building substantive connections with colleagues across institutions, exchanging ideas and effective practices, and contributing to national conversations shaping the future of higher education.”

Carter said she plans to bring what she learns from the program back to PVAMU to support students and the University.

“My goal is to bring what I learn through ELP back to PVAMU in ways that advance student success, strengthen our institution, and positively shape the experiences of the students we serve,” she said.

The 2026 ELP includes an in-person seminar in Washington, D.C., followed by virtual sessions throughout the year.
