D’Iberville, Mississippi (February 7, 2022) – On the final day of the 2022 Southwestern Athletic Conference East roundup, the Prairie View A&M bowling team captured its fifth SWAC Regular Season Title in the past six years, making this the fourth consecutive dating back to 2019.

The Lady Panthers went 24-4 in the two conference-sanctioned tournaments, with the final four wins coming on Sunday as they went 13-1 over the weekend.

“I’m so proud of the team and how well they performed this weekend,” said Head PVAMU Bowling Coach Glenn White. “They really executed well in all phases of competition mentally and physically showing themselves to be true Champions.”

The Lady Panthers captured the SWAC title knocking down a total of 26,064 through the two-part tournaments. The three-day event consisted of 14 five-team matches bowled. Prairie View A&M was led by seniors Crystal Cline and Asia Wren, who finished one and two in individual play.

Cline finished with a total pinfall of 5,480 over 28 games, while Wren was right behind her with a total pin count of 5,479 over her 28 games.

Prairie View A&M opened Sunday’s match with runner-up Alabama State who, finished with a 19-9 overall record. After coming from behind, the Lady Panthers won with a 1029-957 pinfall. They then entered a matchup against Texas Southern, winning this match with a 1,001 – 877 pin count. 

The last two games of the day didn’t come easy as they finished up with a 973-862 win over Alabama A&M and a 1,107 – 907 against Jackson State.

Southern finished the regular season in third with a 17-11 overall finish, while Texas Southern placed fourth (15-13), Jackson State finished fifth (14-14), Florida A&M placed sixth (12-16), Alabama A&M (10-18) and Grambling (1-27) completed the roundup seventh and eighth respectively.

The Regular Season Champions will return to the lanes at the Lady Techsters Invitational, hosted by Louisiana Tech, February 11-13 in Dallas, Texas.
