PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas (Oct. 14, 2026) – Bold graphics, diamond lettering and a whole lot of Panther pride. For Prairie View A&M University alumna Jalisa Jasmin-Janai Jones ’13, celebrating the University’s 150th anniversary meant creating something that feels unmistakably “PV.”

Through her brand, Historical Celebritee, Jones designed a special apparel fan pack inspired by the oversized graphics of ’90s HBCU T-shirts, the flashy lettering of Southern rap album covers and the Texas pride that comes with being a Panther. The result brings together history, hip-hop and campus tradition in a collection designed to resonate with generations of Panthers.

“I wanted this fan pack to feel like PV: bold, proud and full of personality,” Jones said.

The collaboration took shape after Candace Johnson and Sierra Susberry of PVAMU’s Brand Engagement Division within the Office for Marketing and Communications met Jones at the Celebration Bowl last fall. Recognizing an opportunity to bring her creative vision to the University’s anniversary celebration, they approached her about becoming an officially licensed University vendor.

Jones, a professor at Clark Atlanta University overseeing student media, is also an entertainment journalist pursuing a Ph.D. in African American Studies and Political Science. Her dissertation focuses on Southern hip-hop, an influence that comes naturally to a collection celebrating both the University’s legacy and the culture surrounding it.

The goal was to create designs that connect with longtime alumni while giving current students something they’ll want to wear.

“I wanted designs that alumni would recognize themselves in and students would want to wear,” she said.

A member of PVAMU’s Class of 2013, Jones credits The Hill with helping shape the person and professional she is today. Her connection to the University remains strong, from maintaining a perfect attendance record at Homecoming to serving as secretary and historian of the Atlanta Alumni Chapter.

“Prairie View gave me so much of who I am. This collection puts that love on a shirt,” Jones said.

The anniversary apparel fan pack will be available for purchase at the University Bookstore, giving Panthers another way to wear their pride as PVAMU celebrates 150 years of history, tradition and excellence.
