Chicago HBCU Baseball Classic PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas (March 2, 2026) — Prairie View A&M University will make history this spring as the Panthers compete in the inaugural Chicago HBCU Baseball Classic at Wrigley Field on Saturday, May 2, 2026.

Following the regularly scheduled game of the Chicago Cubs earlier that day, PVAMU will face Alabama A&M University in an evening matchup marking the first time two Historically Black Colleges and Universities have competed in a baseball game at the iconic ballpark.

The Chicago HBCU Baseball Classic is designed to celebrate the legacy, culture, and excellence of HBCUs while expanding visibility for Black student-athletes in baseball. The event will feature the energy and traditions synonymous with HBCU classics, bringing a nationally recognized stage to collegiate baseball.

In addition to the game, organizers will host youth clinics, educational programming, and community-centered events throughout Chicago in the days leading up to the Classic. These efforts aim to inspire young people, increase access to the sport, and strengthen connections between HBCUs and the broader community.

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson called the matchup a historic milestone for the city and the future of baseball, noting the significance of Wrigley Field as the only existing ballpark where Jackie Robinson once played.

Tom Ricketts, Executive Chairman of the Chicago Cubs, also recognized the cultural importance of the Classic and the opportunity to highlight HBCU excellence on one of baseball’s most storied stages.

Admission to the Chicago HBCU Baseball Classic is free, though tickets are required. Fans may reserve seats through the Chicago Cubs website.
