Surplus – equipment that is useful but is no longer needed in your department
Salvage – equipment that is no longer useful (broken, worn out, obsolete, etc.)
Salvaged property should not be sent to surplus, however, computers can be sent to surplus in any condition. The warehouse staff will remove hard drives.
